Misspelling

Its plain to see that I would loose at a spelling competition because I am not better then anyone else. Wierd huh?

How often do you spell simple words incorrectly?

Or just plain don’t know how to spell these words correctly?

I came across this great resource online which clearly, and visually outline these common errors and how to avoid them.

The resource is called 10 Words You Need to Stop Misspelling by The Oatmeal.

Here is an example of one of the words. You can find the rest on the site.

As a preservice primary school teacher, I think it would be great to have a resource like this up in my classroom.

5 Sports That Should Be In The Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics, out of all the Olympics, is definitely my favourite Olympics.

I’ve been thinking (with the help of some friends) about some sports that should be added to the Winter Olympics. This year, Ski Cross was added to the games, which is basically 4 skiers going down a course and bumping into each other. Now it’s my turn, so here are 5 sports that should (not) be in the next Winter Olympics.

1. Bobsleigh Biathalon

I’m sure you all know what the bobsleigh is, and for those who don’t know, the biathlon involves skiing, and then shooting. This event would involve bobsleigh, with targets at points in the track for the people in the back of the bobsleigh to shoot (those guys don’t do much at the moment anyway). Think of it as drive by bobsleigh.

2. Double Skeleton

Sports down a bobsleigh track have gotten steadily more dangerous. Bobsleigh, luge, double luge, skeleton (face first luge), so naturally, double skeleton is next. Two guys, on their stomachs, going 130km/h on ice. Now that’s a sport!

3. Pentaluge

So if double luge wasn’t hardcore enough, why not stack ‘em 5 high? That could be fun(ny).

4. Snowboard Cross (Where tricks get you bonus time)

4 years ago, Lindsey Jacobellis went down in the Gold Medal snowboard cross event, trying to do a trick in the air. Now if she was used to doing tricks in races, maybe she wouldn’t have gone down. But surely tricks would make the sport more fun?

5. Car Skating

On Top Gear recently, they raced a car against a speed skater on an ice rink. Wouldn’t it be great to see two cars race each other on ice? Maybe even a whole grid of 20 cars. That would be pretty fun…

Well that’s it for me, what about you? Do you have any sports that should be added to the best Olympics?

Public vs Private | Main Page

I am a Christian studying to be a primary school teacher. Once I am done with studying, I am hoping to get a job as a teacher, and so I want to think through the decisions when deciding where to teach. Specifically with reference to either a public school or a private school.

Public Vs Private Boxers

Over the past months, I have been writing a series of posts thinking through these issues, and for convenience, I am going to have them all archived on this page, and each time I write a new one, I will add it to this list. I will also add drafts that I am planning to write.

All of these posts are from a Christian point of view in deciding to teach in either a public or private primary school in NSW, Australia.

Here are the posts.

At some stage, I am also planning on putting these into a resource for those who are going through a similar decision making process, if you would like to be involved in proofing this type of a document, please let me know.

Welcome to SWED 2010

SWED SUEU logoHere’s a video I recently made for the Christian group at Sydney Uni (SUEU), for the Social Work and Education faculty (SWED)

I used my new camera for this video and I think it looks great (if I do say so myself)! Much better than my old one.

We are doing a whole bunch of events on campus over the coming few weeks, and we would love for you to pray for us as we reach out to Sydney Uni!

I’m Going To Be On Radio!

MicrophoneThis Wednesday, 24/2/2010. I’m going to co-host a 1 hour radio program entitled “EU: A Snapshot of Uni Life”.

The show will be on at 4pm, broadcast from SURG at Sydney Uni.

The show is part of the Sydney Uni Evangelical Union’s (SUEU) O-Week program and will be highlighting some of the activities that the SUEU runs.

I’m looking forward to it. I’m sure it’ll be a ton of fun, and I’ll be hosting with the one and only Mike Roberts. Fun times are sure to follow, and it’ll be broadcast around the campus as part of o-week fun times

So if you are around Sydney Uni on Wednesday between 4pm and 5pm, tune in to SURG 90.9 FM and listen to “EU: A Snapshot of Uni Life”.

I’m a Saint Just Like Mary

You may have heard that Mary MacKillop has been officially approved for canonisation as a Roman Catholic Saint.

In order to become recognised as a Roman Catholic Saint, one must have been proved to have fulfilled a number of requirements (See wikipedia page on Canonization). These include being known to be in heaven, and having a miracle (or two) attributed to your name amongst other things.

Panoramic View of Rome

This process makes no sense to me.

In the Bible, throughout the new testament, the term “saint” is used to refer to any person who believes in Jesus. In Ephesians 1:1, Paul introduces himself and greets those who are believers of Jesus by using the term “saints”.

“Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus”

Ephesians 1:1

I have never understood why certain people are elevated above other Christians because of acts that they have done. The only way that salvation can be attained is through faith in Jesus Christ.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Ephesians 2:8-9

All those who believe in Jesus and have a faith in him are guaranteed salvation from Judgement and have the right to be called saints.

Are you a saint?
