This Is Why I Tell People About Jesus

I love them.

If you have ever heard me talking about my faith, or asking people along to church or a Christian event at Uni and thought it was a bit strange, or thought “why doesn’t he just keep that to himself?”  then read on, this post is for you.

Let me give you a senario.

There is a burning house, and inside that house is a man. You see that man and you want to help him, because if you don’t you know he will die. You see an open door, but for some reason the man inside can’t see the door, and so doesn’t know how to get out. Surely you want to yell out and tell that man about the door, and direct him towards it? You want him to live and not die. That is the loving thing to do.

Burning House

This is what it is like for me.

I believe that those who believe in Jesus will inherit eternal life, and that those who don’t believe in him will be punished forever in hell.

I love my friends and people around me, and so I want them to be saved from punishment that we all deserve because we disobey God. I want everyone instead to live forever with God instead. That is why I tell people about Jesus. Not because I want to force my views on them, but because I love them.

If you want to find out more about this then go here, read a Bible, ask me a question or contact me.

What is the Gospel?

Response to the Gospel? The “Gospel” is mentioned 91 times in the New Testament.

I want to know what you think the Gospel is. So in the comments below, say what you think the Gospel is.

So often we talk about the Gospel, and spreading the Gospel, but can we summarise what we actually mean. Is it a story about Jesus? Or perhaps a presentation like 2 Ways to Live? I think that this is the Gospel.

1Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles,8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

1 Corinthians 15:1-7

What do you think?

What Are You Afraid Of?

FearTime magazine published 10 top fears in 2007, they included flying, being alone and death, amongst others.

I’m not afraid of any of those things.

I’m afraid of getting the gospel wrong.

In the first chapter of Galatians, Paul slams the Galatians for turning to a different gospel (Gal 1:6). In most of his other letters, Paul starts off by thanking God for the church (Eph 1, 1 CorPhil 1). But in Galatians, he gets straight to the point, and he makes it a number of times throughout the book. He finishes off this part of the letter by saying:

If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

Galatians 1:9

It is a full on message that Paul is preaching.

Getting the Word of God wrong is something that we all must avoid! We must strive in our teaching to be sound in doctrine and make sure that what we teach is the truth, so that as many as possible can come into a relationship with Christ.

The importance of children in mission

I have thought for a few years, that children can be effective evangelists. They can tell their friends about what Jesus has done and who he is now, and they can make real responses to the gospel. I really hope that children that I am teaching in Sunday School will grow up as fruitful Christians throughout school and the rest of their lives. This video is one that I was shown a few years ago, and shows how some people view children as important to God’s mission. I think it’s pretty good, and just so you know, all the stuff about children is towards the beginning.
