5 Reasons to Tweet

Twitter BirdsIt’s time to Tweet.

Tweeting is the act of posting updates on Twitter. Twitter is a growing social network and is massively increasing it’s user base, all over the world. It now has over 32 million monthly viewers, which is more than the NY Times (from here). Both Dave Miers and Steve Kryger have posted on the growth of Twitter.

So here’s how Twitter works.

  • You sign up for an account
  • You follow people
  • You tweet (140 character posts, or “microblogs”)
  • People follow you and they receive your tweets
  • You receive the tweets of those whom you follow

It is catching on, and I think it has reached a point where it is valuable to be using Twitter. Here are 5 great reasons to get tweeting.

1. Global influence

Whatever you tweet gets posted on the public timeline that anyone can see (you can choose not to if you want). This means that if you post something about Jesus or a Bible verse, then everyone will get exposed to that. Imagine if all Christians used that to spread news about God…

2. Prayer

Twitter can be used to effectively share prayer points. People can tweet asking for prayer, or you can just pray about something. I have really enjoyed knowing what ministries people are doing.

3. Conciseness

This is where Twitter dominates facebook. Tweets are 140 characters max. So there are no quizzes or long wall posts or anything else to clog up your feed from the people you follow. However, if you want to share more info, it is easy to incorporate links.

4. News

Yet another way to keep up with news you want to know. You can follow such organisations as Time Magazine or BBC World News, or even Cricket Info, and you receive news updates from them.

5. It’s everywhere!

Twitter doesn’t just have to be used on the Twitter website. There are also numerous desktop clients (programs) and clients for phones (such as the iPhone) that let you use Twitter updates in a different way (most people on Twitter use 3rd part clients). Making it easier than ever to connect with people.

Hope you enjoyed this insights. Stay tuned for more information on “How to use Twitter” and “Great 3rd party clients for Twitter”.
