Great Deals on the Cheap

I really like cheap stuff. If I can get something for half price, then I am soo much more likely to get it, but who isn’t?

Over the past few years there have been a few sites that have sprung up in the US to take advantage of the viral nature of social media and peoples desire to get cheap stuff. The most noteworthy of these sites being Groupon. A site where you can find deals in your city.

Only recently I have been able to find these type of sites in Australia, and I’ve got two that I currently subscribe to. The first one that I found is called Living Social. Each day there is a deal for each area of Sydney (and other cities), and if you choose you can purchase that deal. Even better, you can advertise this deal to your friends via Facebook and Twitter and if three or more of them buy it, then you get your deal for free.

The second site I stumbled upon in quite an ironic manner. I was reading the Sydney Morning Herald online when I read an article about Groupon trying to start an Australian based business. They were however thwarted when trying to buy the domain groupon.com.au as it had already been purchased by a competitor in Australia, Scoopon. Dodgey practice aside, this article introduced me to Scoopon and what they do (you can read that article here).

Scoopon, like Living Social has one deal each day. However in order for that deal to be live, a minimum number of people need to sign up to buy it, if not enough people sign up, then no one gets the deal. Once again encouraging people to share deals via social networks in order to get the deals themselves.

I like both of these sites, partly because of cheap deals, and partly because of ideas. I get ideas from these sites as to things that Alice and I can do together, things that I wouldn’t have otherwise thought to do.

So if you want, sign up to these sites and get emails sent to you with great deals everyday.

Do you know of any other sites with great deals?
